What's new
A running list of what we've shipped, newest first.

If you've added Coffer to your iPhone home screen, the bottom navigation now sits clear of the home indicator instead of being clipped by the screen's curve.
When your projected income rises, the next invoice you mark paid sets aside a little extra to cover the shortfall on earlier ones. Those invoices now carry a small dot on the tax breakdown, so a rate that sits above the usual one always has a visible reason.
New articles explain the detailed tax breakdown, home office deductions, capital assets and depreciation, the GST return summary, and privacy mode - most with a preview of the screen they describe.
Press P or tap the eye in the nav to mask every dollar amount while charts keep their shape - load Coffer mid-screen-share without exposing your figures. The choice sticks per device.
Enter your floor areas and the year's rent or mortgage interest, and Coffer computes the deduction with IRD's square-metre rate (or your actual utility costs) and records it as an expense. Shared spaces work too: tell Coffer how much of the space's use is business and the claim scales to match. Each year's details carry forward.
A per-period report of the figures behind each GST return - sales, zero-rated supplies, GST collected, claimable purchases, and the net to pay - printable and downloadable for filing or your accountant.
Purchases over $1,000 ex GST are now depreciated properly instead of deducted in one go, with an Assets view showing each asset's yearly depreciation, what's been claimed, and the value remaining. Filter the Expenses tab by tax year to look back.
If you invoice an overseas client for exported services, that work is zero-rated: you charge GST at 0%. Mark a client as zero-rated and Coffer leaves GST off their invoices automatically, on the invoice, the PDF, and the amount you set aside. Your standard NZ clients are unchanged. Once a client has a paid invoice, their GST treatment stays fixed so past invoices always match what you charged.
Coffer now holds your full GST and income tax set-aside by default, rather than reducing it for expense deductions straight away. Your expenses still show on the tax breakdown; they just don't lower your ringfenced total until you switch it on in Settings. This keeps the amount that's yours to spend on the cautious side, since the income tax a deduction saves isn't settled until your end-of-year return.
ACC is the third thing a contractor sets aside for, after GST and income tax. Tell Coffer your line of work and it estimates your yearly ACC levy and sets money aside from each payment you receive, so the invoice that lands around September is already covered. ACC shows as its own section on the dashboard, split by year. When your actual ACC invoice arrives, enter the amount in Settings and Coffer uses your figure in place of its estimate, so what's set aside matches your bill exactly.
Prepare a priced quote for a client, email it as a PDF, and track whether it's been sent, accepted, or declined. When a quote is accepted, turn it into an invoice in one step, with the line items carried across so there's nothing to retype. Quotes are optional; switch them on from Settings.
Record a deductible business cost and attach a receipt. Coffer works out the GST you can claim back and the income tax the deduction saves, and takes both off your ringfenced total, so the amount that's yours to spend reflects what you actually owe. A running tracker shows what you've saved this tax year.
A small set of free calculators anyone can use, including your take-home pay and what a business purchase really costs once tax is taken into account. Plus a page about who's building Coffer and why.
The ringfenced total now separates GST from income tax, so you can see at a glance how much of what you've set aside is for each.
Set aside money for things that aren't IRD, an emergency fund, new gear, a holiday, in named pots that come out of your 'Yours to spend' number so it stays honest. And if you keep everything in a revolving-credit or overdraft account, you can tell Coffer your limit so an unused overdraft isn't counted as money you have.
Coffer moved to secure sign-in, so your invoices, clients, and numbers stay private to you.
Instead of a single flat rate, Coffer walks the New Zealand income tax brackets on your projected earnings to set aside a more accurate amount from each payment you receive.
Choose how your invoice numbers look with a simple template that resets each year, as either one running sequence or a separate sequence per client.
A round of improvements to creating, editing, and sending invoices, and to the PDF Coffer generates for you.
Coffer launched with the essentials: create GST invoices, mark them paid, and see one honest number. Your bank might show one balance, but Coffer sets aside the GST and income tax you'll owe IRD and shows what's genuinely yours to spend, with your clients, bank balance, and provisional-tax dates all tracked in one place.
