Tax
Reports
The reports your accountant usually asks for, built from what you've already recorded: income and expenditure, the GST return worksheet, depreciation, sales and expense registers, aged receivables, schedular payments, and everything you've paid IRD. Pick a year, view any report on screen, and download it as CSV or PDF.
Reports pulls everything you've recorded in Coffer, your invoices, expenses, and the payments you've made to IRD, into the standard reports you or your accountant need at tax time. You don't fill anything in here. Every figure is worked out from what you've already entered, so the reports stay in step with your day to day.
You'll find it under Reports in the side menu. Pick a report on the left and it shows on the right. You can look at any of them on screen, and download each one as a spreadsheet (CSV) or a PDF.
Picking a year
Most of the reports cover one financial year, so there's a year picker at the top. Choose the year you want and the reports update. Two reports don't use it: the GST return worksheet has its own period picker (because you file GST more often than once a year), and Aged receivables always shows where things stand today.
What each report shows
There are eight reports, and they're the ones an accountant usually asks for:
- Income & expenditure is your income and your expenses for the year, and the profit left before tax. The figures are GST-exclusive, so they're the amounts that actually count as yours.
- GST return worksheet lays out the box-by-box figures for the GST101A return, for whichever period you pick. It only appears if you're registered for GST.
- Depreciation lists your capital assets and how much depreciation you're claiming on each this year. It reconciles to the depreciation line in Income & expenditure.
- Sales register is every invoice you issued in the year, with the GST split out, so you can see the invoices behind your income figure.
- Expense register is every expense you recorded, with the GST split and your notes, so you can see the costs behind your deductions.
- Aged receivables takes the invoices you're still waiting to be paid for and groups them by how long they've been outstanding, as at today.
- Schedular payments totals the withholding tax deducted from your pay, one line per agency, for the year.
- IRD payments is everything you've paid IRD this year, GST returns, provisional tax, terminal tax, and withholding tax. You can see it grouped by type, or listed payment by payment.
Downloading a report
Each report has a CSV and a PDF button. Use the CSV if you want the numbers in a spreadsheet to sort or add to, and the PDF if you want a tidy copy to print or email. The download always matches what's on screen, so what you see is what you send.
Handing it to your accountant
If you've invited your accountant, they see these same reports in their own area, so you often won't need to send anything at all. If you'd rather do it yourself, download the CSV or PDF and send it across. See inviting your accountant.
